Semi-final 1 (06.05.14.)
(YouTube links will be updated as soon as footage from this Semi-Final is available.)
1: Aram MP3 - Not Alone (Amrenia)
... Really, Armenia? You really think you can redeem a snorefest by making it go 'wub wub wub' in the middle? Ugghhh.
2: Aarzemnieki - Cake to Bake (Latvia)
*wipes tears of laughter* Ohhhh gaaawwwd this is hilarious. What even. I just. The lyrics. Ahhhh...!
3: Tanja - Amazing (Estonia)
It's okay - not 'amazing'. Nice cheese factor. Could grow on me.
4: Sanna Nielsen - Undo (Sweden)
Was waiting for a dance beat to kick in and give this song some life. It never happened. Booooring.
5: Pollapönk - No Prejudice (Iceland)
Ohhhhhohohoho it is SO NICE to see a return of goofy entries like this! Made me smile almost right away.
6: Hersi - One Night's Anger (Albania)
Ooh, she has a nice voice. Song's not all that, though.
7: Tolmachevy Sisters - Shine (Russia)
Russia no wat r u doin they're shit
8: Dilara Kazimova - Start a Fire (Azerbaijan)
Well, she's beautiful and has a decent voice. This song is starting no fires, however.
9: Mariya Yaremchuk - Tick-Tock (Ukraine)
Oh good, not another ballad. Despite having more life than the previous song, though, it's not all that special.
10: Axel Hirsoux - Mother (Belgium)
He has a nice voice. Is this ballad going to be any good, though? ... Not really, no.
11: Cristina Scarlat - Wild Soul (Moldova)
Nice cheese factor. I like the, "Merrrrcy! I have no feelings of merrrrrcy!" bit. IDK if it's really good enough for me to want to listen to it in future years, though.
12: Valentina Monetta - Maybe (Forse) (San Marino)
Apparently San Marino is so tiny that it's now run out of singers and can only send in Facebook Song Lady every year. Valentina Monetta returns to the Eurovision for the THIRD YEAR RUNNING, this time with a song that clearly had no effort put into its creation. Snooorrrre. ♪ Maybeeee, this song is shit and you shouldn't have sung iiiit ♪
13: Suzy - Quero ser tua (Portugal)
Hey Portugal, nice to see you back again! Glad that the Portuguese entrants always sing in Portuguese. Song's not amazing, but at least it has some life to it. Maybe it'll grow on me?
14: The Common Linnets - Calm After the Storm (The Netherlands)
Ooh hello, this is a bit different. Country in the Eurovision?! Well, I suppose it has happened (sort of) before. But yeah, even though this has a slow-ish tempo, it actually does have some life to it. Quite pleasant indeed.
15: Sergej Ćetković - Moj svijet (Montenegro)
Ahhhh Montenegro. The Montenegrin language is so lovely to hear in a song, and though the chorus is not amazing, the song itself is quite lovely too.
16: András Kállay-Saunders - Running (Hungary)
Nice voice, and a decent song. Love the drums in the chorus, and how dark the song is despite being (partially) upbeat.
Well, it's not an amazing start for this year's Eurovision, that's for sure. There were a couple of good entries in this Semi-Final, though. I think my favourites were Montenegro, Latvia (LMAO), Hungary, and The Netherlands.
