Semi-Final 2 (15.05.25.)
(Due to me being on the other side of the planet from home, this was viewed on YouTube the day after airing.)
1: Go-Jo - Milkshake Man (Australia)
Haha! Well, this is pretty fun. A nice silly entry to start with. Thanks for the laugh, Australia - and for 10 years of tunes ❤
2: Nina Žižić - Dobrodošli (Montenegro)
That sure is an outfit! Up close it kind of looks like she couldn't bear to part with her bed and just brought it with her. Oof that voice crack LOL. Well, I like that she's singing in Montenegrin, but I'm not sure the song's doing much for me. Ope, there goes the bed. ... oh and the song just ends as I'm expecting it to start up for real. Okay
3: Emmy - Laika Party (Ireland)
OH wasn't expecting her voice to be so high LOL. Nice dancey beginning, though! Chorus is okay but feels like it lacks power. ... ... ... And given that Laika was a dog... wouldn't her natural lifespan... have long since elapsed in its entirety anyway? 🤔 IDK am I Sheldon-ing? Maybe I'm just Sheldon-ing,,,
4: Tautumeitas - Bur man laimi (Latvia)
Ooh 👀 Like that beginning! Atmospheric! OOH!! OOOOOOOOOOH :D They look like magical beings and SING like magical beings!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!! So pretty!!!! Europe plz plz send this through this is wonderful
5: Parg - Survivor (Armenia)
Ooh 👀 OOH! Bit of a rock-pop sound going on there, nice! Heh! AW YEAH!! I like this!!! 🕺 I am SHAKIN MAH BUTT 🕺🕺🕺🕺 HEADBOPPIN' 🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺 Powerful and fun.
6: JJ - Wasted Love (Austria)
:O!!!!!!!! <- was literally the face I made when the chorus happened. Holy shit! Gorgeous! Anyone who knows me probably knows I have a bit of a soft spot for operatic vocals or opera references. That was why I loved last year's Swiss entry and also Space Kate from Australia. This! This too is wonderful!! Holy shit!! Powerful. Powerful. Austria!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!
6a: Remember Monday - What the Hell Just Happened? (United Kingdom)
As per usual, the UK entry is the only one I'll listen to before it's performed at the Eurovision, since it's that of my own country. And the song's okay I guess. On first listen, I found the lyrics to be trying so hard to be relatable that it irritated me. This time I suppose I'm not bothering to listen much to the lyrics. And it's just. Okay I guess. Could've been worse. Has some life to it at least
7: Klavdia - Asteromata (Greece)
Ooh, this is pretty nice! Atmospheric. In Greek 😊 Song might require a few more listens before I really figure out how I feel about it, but I like the overall powerful feel. OOH sudden outfit change at the end, noice
8: Katarsis - Tavo akys (Lithuania)
Y'know, I am loving that that more countries have sent in songs in their native languages this year 👍 And I am quite liking the feel of this song!! Atmospheric, kinda dark? Great vocals too. Ooooooo Lithuaniaaaaa ❤
9: Miriana Conte - Serving (Malta)
Heh. This was that one that was too naughty and got censored, right? Can't be saying "serving cunt" in the Eurovision 😌 LOLOLOL. The vibe's pretty fun, but the song's not doing that much for me.
10: Mariam Shengelia - Freedom (Georgia)
👀 An exciting beginning! You can always count on Georgia to give us something interesting 😊 Ooooooh. Ooh?! Oh, this song is going places! Okay!! Y'know! I like this! It's creative! And feels very Georgian! Which I greatly enjoy! Ms. Shengelia sure took us on a journey!!
11: Sissal - Hallucination (Denmark)
Oooooh 👀 HallUuUuUu-Hallucination!! This is a fun one! OH YES! Ohhhh I like this!! Yessss Denmark YESSSSSSS 🕺
12: Adonxs - Kiss Kiss Goodbye (Czechia)
Ooh, nice voice! Chorus isn't super exciting, but this one could grow on me! ... oop did he just miss his cue there LOL. But yeah, it's a pretty nice song!
13: Laura Thorn - La poupée monte le son (Luxembourg)
The title immediately got me singing an old classic! Oh, looks like that was intentional LOL. ... Song's just alright, though.
14: Yuval Raphael - New Day Will Rise (Israel)
It's alright. A ballad. Ballads tend to be a bit of a snore unless you really inject some power into them. And this one... nah. Too run-of-the-mill.
15: Princ - Mila (Serbia)
o.o His hair is beautiful. I do love that Serbia always sing in Serbian 😊 Song's not doing much for me, though, sadly. A shame, as he does have a very nice voice.
16: Erika Vikman - Ich komme (Finland)
Hang on. I swear she's that lady that did that naughty song? What was it called?? I shall have to look this up. (Can't help but feel the big, very on-display tits are backing me up on this ;D ) (EDIT: It was 'Cicciolina'!) Ooh! I am quite liking this song! Fun and powerful! Danceable! Good vibes! In Finnish!! Yeah!!! Ooooh and it speeds up!!!!! :D
I skipped the Big 5 entries other than that of my own country (UK) to avoid Final spoilers!
Faves: AUSTRIA!! Latvia, Lithuania
Aww that Maltese lady looked so delighted with her souvenirs!
OOHHHH 2020 ENTRANTS!!! But really, though, 2020 was such a strong year for Eurovision and it was a TERRIBLE shame that the contest itself didn't go ahead. Definitely go and listen to all the songs from that year if you haven't, because there were some incredible entries.
... y'know, five years on, I'm still wondering about why there's a Nichiren Buddhist (ie. Japanese) chant in 'Cleopatra' of all songs though LMAO how did that sneak in there
Erika Vikman saucily eating fondue xD Or trying to and dropping a bit hahahaha
All three of my top faves through YES!! Also happy about Armenia, Denmark, and Finland! But sad to lose Georgia! Honestly, I thought after the unusual Ukrainian entry went through, this one might have a chance too, but I guess not. :(
Well, looking forward to seeing the Final now! Still sad there'll be no 'Poison Cake' or 'Shh' in it, but there will be coffee and opera, so it'll still be a good time 😌
