Semi-final 1 (09.05.17.)
1: Robin Bengtsson - I Can't Go On (Sweden)
OOOOH SWEDEN. YOU HAD ME DANCING WITHIN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS. OOOOOOH YEAH
2: Tamara Gachechiladze - Keep the Faith (Georgia)
Well, it's got that cheese factor! I can see this growing on me. Mmmmmm a definite grower. OOOH I like that 'OH' bit
3: Isaiah - Don't Come Easy (Australia)
Ooh, he's got a nice voice. I like the lyrics. Even without having a particularly impactful vocal melody, it's got a certain power to it. Hmmmm!
4: Lindita - World (Albania)
Ooh her voice is nice. I think I like it!
5: Blanche - City Lights (Belgium)
Wow, lots of nice voices so far this year! Nice atmospheric beginning to this song. Overall it has a kind of 'low-key' feel that's surprising for Eurovision but enjoyable nonetheless. Will require further listens.
6: Slavko Kalezić - Space (Montenegro)
THAT PLAIT WOW. AND THE CHORUS GOT IT. Niiiiiiice disco feel
7: Norma John - Blackbird (Finland)
Wow, interesting. Personally I don't think the song is at all suited for Eurovision, but it's pretty nice in and of itself. Def gonna require more listens.
8: Dihaj - Skeletons (Azerbaijan)
Nice synthy beginning. Chorus is, sadly, boring as fuck however. Ahh, what a let-down.
9: Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal)
Oh, now this is charming. And it's in Portuguese! Sounds like an old romantic movie. Mmmm :)
10: Demy - This Is Love (Greece)
Started off fairly well but just got naffer and naffer until the uninspired chorus. Shame.
11: Kasia Moś - Flashlight (Poland)
Hmm. Seems like it wants to be much more than it ends up managing to be. The chorus... :/
12: Sunstroke Project - Hey, Mamma! (Moldova)
And the band who brought the world Epic Sax Guy are back! The 'chorus' had me LOLing. Clearly they are aware of their memetic status.
13: Svala - Paper (Iceland)
Goooooosebumps. ICELAND DELIVERS! Everything about this is wonderful. So atmospheric...!
14: Martina Bárta - My Turn (Czech Republic)
I like her voice. The song... hmm... not so sure. Nice sentiment but musically 'meh'.
15: Hovig - Gravity (Cyprus)
A very strong beginning! And a decent, though not stellar, chorus. I think I like it. Was hoping for a key change towards the end, though. :(
16: Artsvik - Fly With Me (Armenia)
Ohhh, this is interesting! Think I like this. I love it when there's a hint of traditional music in Eurovision entries. It's also unusual and probably not something that most will easily get into, which will probably work against the entry's score, but I like the unusualness.
17: Omar Naber - On My Way (Slovenia)
Oh, it's nice! The chorus took me by surprise; I like that. AND IT HAS A KEY CHANGE!! YESSSSSSS
18: Triana Park - Line (Latvia)
Very strong beginning! And it has kind of a non-chorus? But I think I like it.
Obviously my favourite of this semi-final was Iceland, but special mentions to Portugal, Slovenia, Cyprus, and Latvia. ... And AW SHIT WHAT THE FUCK only 1 out of my 5 top tracks got through! Whaaaaat Slovenia had a key change and everything what are you doing Europe. Oh well. On to Semi-Final 2!!
