Music wot N thinks is FABULOUS: Part 6

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Rydeen
Yellow Magic Orchestra is a Japanese electropop band formed in 1978. Their music is generally awesome like this. :D From their 1979 album 'Solid State Survivor'.
Soap&Skin - Thanatos
Soap&Skin is the experimental music project of Anja Plaschg, who was only 18 when 'Lovetune for Vacuum', the album that includes this song, was released. That someone so young could make such brilliant music makes me feel rather jealous, in a nice way.
The Shaggs - My Pal Foot Foot
And now we go from musical brilliance to a musical atrocity! It is, however, so atrocious that it's incredibly endearing... well, that's what I think anyway. The Shaggs were a trio of sisters that had no musical talent but were made to form a band by their father after a psychic told him they would make him famous. It is a complete mystery to me how something like this (and, in fact, an entire album like this) could have ever been recorded and sold, but I'm glad it was, because I kinda love it. Heck, even Frank Zappa is purported to have liked this. From their 1969 album 'Philosophy of the World'.
Erasure - Oh L'amour
Let's have something a little less bizarre now: synthpop duo Erasure! 'Oh L'amour' was their third single, back in 1986, and can be found on their album 'Wonderland'.
Lacrimosa - Malina
Ahhh, this song...! Once upon a time, I randomly downloaded Lacrimosa's album 'Echos' (of which this song is the penultimate track) just to check it out, having never heard of the band before, and when I listened to it, I fell so completely in love with it that I soon embarked on a quest to buy each and every one of Lacrimosa's albums. Now the only one I don't own on CD yet is 'Sehnsucht'.
Bonnie Pink - Sleeping Child
I remember being given this album, 'Let Go', one summer many years ago. It's now one of those albums that I think is great summertime listening. Gorgeous stuff.
John Tavener - The Lamb
Y'know, up until now, I suppose I hadn't really thought of putting any classical music in my list of fabulousness, but then I remembered this beautiful, slightly unusual piece that we looked at briefly in A-Level Music class. While I am no Christian, I do quite enjoy sacred vocal music like this. You may have to turn your speakers up to listen to it, however, as it is quite quiet.
Kanno Yoko - Omega Blue
Kanno Yoko is a Japanese composer known for her soundtracks for anime, games, TV programmes, and various other things. Picking just one track by her was certainly not easy, as I find her music in general to be just stunning. Nevertheless, here is a song from the Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna soundtrack, sung by the mysterious Gabriela Robin... who is actually Ms. Kanno herself, it seems.
Radiohead - Idioteque
This is another one that was hard to pick. 'OK Computer' is a bloody brilliant album with some tracks that I love, and 'Kid A' is too. Oh, and then there's also 'The Bends'. (I admit I haven't yet listened to 'Amnesiac' or any of the albums that came after it.) In the end, though, I just went with 'Idioteque' from Kid A, which I find to be rather addictive. I really like it when a band's sound evolves and when they try new things, and indeed 'Kid A' marks a shift in Radiohead's style.
Sito Magus - Sabbato
Ooh! That organ intro is just delightful. Sito Magus is a Japanese gothic band that I really need to hear more of. What little I have by them is so, so good. Ahh! From their first single 'Majo no tsuchi/Sabbato'.
Still more to come!
