Semi-final 1 (25.05.10.)

1: SunStroke Project and Olia Tira - Run Away (Moldova)
Rotating violinist - woo! The female singer's outfit is cool too. Unfortunately, though, the song doesn't do much for me.

2: Peter Nalitch and Friends - Lost and Forgotten (Russia)
Good voice, and while it's not the greatest song in the world, I quite like it. The hilariously narm-y second verse with the burning of photos just kind of adds to its charm.

3: Malcolm Lincoln - Siren (Estonia)
... LOL WTF was that?! Interesting song, but not suitable for the Eurovision.

4: Kristina - Horehronie (Slovakia)
Yay, I like to hear people singing in their country's official language. However, I found this song to be unremarkable, which is a shame, as it starts off sounding like it's gonna be much more than what it actually is.

5: Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki ellää (Finland)
Quite like this one; it's charming and fun, especially amongst the overabundance of ballads this year (which you'll notice as you go through these entries). Shame it didn't get through to the finals.

6: Aisha - What For? (Latvia)
Starts off sounding like it's gonna be an interesting, philosophical, pondersome song... and then she sings that only "Mr. God" knows the answer to her questions, and that "his phone today is out of range." Oh dear.

7: Milan Stanković - Ovo je Balkan (Serbia)
His hair. It is awesome. 8D Anyway, certainly not Serbia's best entry ever, but compared to the other countries' rather lacklustre output so far, it's quite fun.

8: Vukašin Brajić - Thunder and Lightning (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
Bosnia, what happened? The year before last you had 'Pokušaj', last year you had 'Bistra voda', and now this? You make me sad. :( A boring, forgettable entry.

9: Marcin Mroziński - Legenda (Poland)
Um, wow. O_O Definitely one of the more interesting entries this year. Has a very strong start, then kind of goes into... Idunnowhat. But it's a kind of good Idunnowhat. Shame it's the kind of song that'd require several listens to get into, which I'm sure would've been a major factor in its failure to qualify for the final.

10: Tom Dice - Me and My Guitar (Belgium)
Now this is cute. I like the lyrics and the song's general simplicity. Glad it got through to the final.

11: Thea Garrett - My Dream (Malta)
Aww, she looks like a Faerie Queen in the making. Charming. Nice song, but unremarkable.

12: Juliana Pasha - It's All About You (Albania)
ALBANIA. YES YES YES. Everyone else, take note: THIS is a Eurovision song! I was yelling, "GO ON ALBANIA!!" when the qualifying entries were being announced, and was very pleased to see it succeed.

13: Giorgios Alkaios and Friends - OPA! (Greece)
Fun, fun entry. Chorus-wise, not the best thing I've ever heard, but still good enough for me to like it.

14: Filipa Azevedo - Há dias assim (Portugal)
Nice but dull, especially in comparison to last year's entry (which I thought was gorgeous).

15: Gjoko Taneski - Jas ja imam silata (Macedonia)
S'alright. The lack of English pleases me, and the random rapper amuses me slightly.

16: 3+2 feat Robert Wells - Butterflies (Belarus)
Oh. God. Um... I'll tell you my thought process throughout this song: "Ooh, hi there cute guy. Bloody hell, that's a cheesy chorus. LOL. Oh, that other guy has a good voice. Still a crap song, tho- OH GOD THEY JUST SPROUTED BUTTERFLY WINGS WHAT THE MOTHERFUCK NO." So bad it's funny.

17: Hera Björk - Je ne sais quoi (Iceland)
And then Iceland came and injected some life and awesomeness back into the contest, redeeming themselves after last year's horrible, horrible (and incomprehensibly popular) entry. Like with Albania's entry, I was cheering this lady on. Great way to end the night!

Semi-final 2 (27.05.10.)

1: InCulto - Eastern European Funk (Lithuania)
Ah, Lithuania, the same country that gave us 'We Are The Winners' in 2006. Not the greatest song chorus-wise, but funny. LOVE the little wardrobe twist at the end, hahaha!

2: Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone (Armenia)
LOL, erm, okay then. Interesting lyrics there. Nice, but unremarkable.

3: Harel Skaat - Milim (Israel)
The best ballad of this year. Considering this year is oversaturated with ballads, that's quite something.

4: Chanée and N'evergreen - In a Moment Like This (Denmark)
Doesn't do anything for me, although it does have at least a bit of life, I suppose.

5: Michael von der Heide - Il pleut de l'or (Switzerland)
I could just copy and paste the same comment I wrote for Denmark, really.

6: Anna Bergendahl - This Is My Life (Sweden)
Disappointing entry from Sweden.

7: Safura - Drip Drop (Azerbaijan)
Definitely one of the stronger ballads of this year. Boring, though.

8: Alyosha - Sweet People (Ukraine)
I quite like this one. It's thoughtful, and powerful melody-wise. Glad it got through to the final.

9: Sieneke - Ik Ben Verliefd (Sha-la-lie) (The Netherlands)
Starts off sounding daft, quickly becomes this year's most memorable entry. Fun, charming, and upbeat, this should've been this year's winner, but sadly, it didn't even get through to the final.

10: Paula Seling and Ovi - Playing With Fire (Romania)
S'alright; the chorus lets it down a little.

11: Ansambel Žlindra & Kalamari - Narodnozabavni Rock (Slovenia)
Nice idea, but not very well executed.

12: Niamh Kavanagh - It's for You (Ireland)
Ireland are back on form this year. One of the better ballads, definitely. Doesn't do much for me, though.

13: Miro - Angel si ti (Bulgaria)
THIS SHOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH TO THE FINAL. Catchy, fun, and danceable.

14: Jon Lilygreen and The Islanders - Life Looks Better in Spring (Cyprus)
Boring. Next!

15: Feminnem - Lako je sve (Croatia)
Oh God, another ballad. Not bad, but not memorable either. Plus points for being in Croatian.

16: Sopho Nizharadze - Shine (Georgia)
And another one. Boring.

17: maNga - We Could Be The Same (Turkey)
TURKEY. TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY. You have far exceeded my expectations. Not the greatest chorus-wise, but stands out amongst the rest.

So, well... it's definitely a bad year for Eurovision. So many boring songs, and FAR too many ballads. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what the other five countries have to offer. I'll be back tomorrow with my thoughts on the final!
