Eurovision semi-final 2 2016: N's thoughts

Semi-final 2 (12.05.16.)

1: Justs - Heartbeat (Latvia)
DANNNG, Latvia! This... I fear this one will also be Too Good for Eurovision. Sounds like something that wouldn't be out of place on the radio. Nice!

2: Michał Szpak - Color of Your Life (Poland)
... Oh, it's always such a shame when an attractive long-haired man enters with a boring song. *thinks back fondly to last year's sexy Austrian pyromaniac*

3: Rykka - The Last of Our Kind (Switzerland)
It starts off sounding so nice and then becomes such a fucking snore. Unnnngh wat. The vocal line in the chorus is delivered so weakly too. Nil points from N!

4: Hovi Star - Made of Stars (Israel)
It's nice. Might grow on me. Can't help but wish it had a good ol' dance beat going on though LOL

5: Ivan - Help You Fly (Belarus)
Not bad. Could be catchy. Maybe. If I don't just decide it's completely naff.

6: Sanja Vučić ZAA - Goodbye (Shelter) (Serbia)
S'alright.

7: Nicky Byrne - Sunlight (Ireland)
And our neighbours have entered another boring, utterly unoriginal song. Snooooooooore. COME ON IRELAND, YOU GAVE US ENYA, YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS.

8: Kaliopi - Дона (Macedonia)
Hey, it's Epic Macedonian Whinny Lady! This song is... alright. But she delivers the chorus so epically that it has a chance of growing on me. Definitely got some of that cheese factor that I enjoy going on. Heh

9: Donny Montell - I've Been Waiting for This Night (Lithuania)
Another one that's just alright.

10: Dami Im - Sound of Silence (Australia)
Not bad. Not nearly as good as their last entry, but decent. Has more life to it than some of the previous songs in this semi-final at least, haha. Might grow on me.

11: ManuElla - Blue and Red (Slovenia)
WHAT IS WITH THIS FUCKING SEMI-FINAL. WHY SO MANY DULL FUCKING SONGS. THE NEXT ONE BETTER FUCKING DELIVER

12: Poli Genova - If Love Was a Crime (Bulgaria)
Okay, this one has some life to it. Still just... not bad, though.

13: Lighthouse X - Soldiers of Love (Denmark)
... Are you serious right now. Are you. Fucking. Serious right now. Well, at least the next one's mildly controversial in its allusions to political issues...

14: Jamala - 1944 (Ukraine)
Okay, this is definitely one of the better entries of this semi-final, even if it doesn't go SOCK BAM POW YEAH AWESOME like I've been wanting. Will require further listens.

15: Agnete - Icebreaker (Norway)
WHOA okay, unexpected tempo change in the chorus there. Definitely makes it stand out from the other songs. Think I kinda like it?

16: Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz - Midnight Gold (Georgia)
Oh man, this is an unusual one. It kind of has two verses without a chorus, then goes ????, then a miniature verse-without-chorus before it ends. And y'know what? I think I like it! No way this'll get through to the Final, though.

17: Eneda Tarifa - Fairytale (Albania)
Ooookay, think I like this one. Got this really nice sensual feel to it.

18: Laura Tesoro - What's the Pressure (Belgium)
I'M BOPPING. I'M BOPPING. FIRST TIME I'VE BOPPED THROUGHOUT THIS SEMI-FINAL. This is fun, I liiiiike.

Disqualified: Ovidiu Anton - Moment of Silence (Romania)
OH MY GOD. THIS IS GOOD. What a terrible shame that Romania was disqualified; this is right up my alley! Cheesy pop-rock power ballad with vocals that wouldn't sound out of place on a power metal record? FUCK YES!




GEORGIA GOT THROUGH?! Awesome! I thought Norway might get through in their place because she's a cute girl, but it seems I underestimated the people of Europe! (Still sad that Norway didn't get through, though.) A lot of the dross got eliminated too, although it's a shame that Poland's boring entry got through (probably on account of the guy being attractive) while Epic Macedonian Whinny Lady's entry didn't. Also, noooo Albania :( I would swap out either Lithuania or Bulgaria for that one. But oh well! The results of this semi-final aren't as crazy as the results of the first semi-final, so s'all good, p much! Now just to await the final!
